Abstract

Throughout the present work we will outline the role of Spain, and of the main Spanish political figures involved, in the process of construction of the foreign policy of the European Union since Spain joined the Communities in 1986 until the moment in which the Treaty of Nice is drafted. Spain in this whole process participates loyally in the European integration project, with a common will to constitute a true foreign policy and a true defense policy, which will facilitate the Union to become one of the main actors of the global world in the 21st century.
