La estrategia corporativa, el plan general de la empresa diversificada, es a la vez la favorita y la hijastra de la práctica gerencial contemporánea; la favorita porque los presidentes de las empresas están obsesionados con la diversificación desde principios de los años sesenta, la hijastra porque no hay acuerdo sobre lo que es la estrategia corporativa y -mucho menos- sobre cómo debería formularse (Michael Porter 1987, pág. 43).
