Del modelo closed al modelo open innovation: la apertura del proceso de innovación en la empresa industrial española

Este trabajo ha obtenido el Accésit Premio Estudios Financieros 2008 en la modalidad de CONTABILIDAD Y ADMINISTRACIÓN DE EMPRESAS.
Estudios recientes ponen de manifiesto que las empresas europeas y estadounidenses más innovadoras evolucionan hacia modelos open innovation, en los que el centro del proceso de innovación se basa en una red de relaciones entre distintos agentes (productores, usuarios, universidades y otras instituciones). Con esta investigación aportamos evidencia empírica del modelo de innovación de las empresas españolas, analizando si el modelo open innovation es la base de la estrategia de innovación en las empresas industriales españolas. A partir de una muestra de 1.271 empresas, se constata que las empresas españolas utilizan distintas fuentes externas de conocimiento como base para el desarrollo de innovaciones. Concretamente, las alianzas tecnológicas con distintos actores, la contratación de personal de I+D con experiencia y la participación en empresas innovadoras constituyen formas de acceder a conocimiento externo y valioso para la obtención de innovaciones. Los resultados también señalan que el tamaño de la empresa y la intensidad tecnológica del sector pueden afectar al comportamiento abierto de las empresas.
