International entrepreneurial orientation and new models of management in the international performance of family business

Abstract

After the 18th National Congress of Family Business made clear the current worries of family businesses in key issues like: entrepreneurship, internationalization, people management and organizational model. This work tries to answer those worries setting a model that analyses the company management and how the international entrepreneurial orientation influences in the international performance of these businesses. This is the first contribution of this work. On the other hand, another worry of these businesses is how to get competitive advantage through the strategy they have designed and implanted.
This work follows the path that have been traced by authors in previous works, in which stands out the explanatory power of entrepreneurial orientation in order to analyze the internationalization process (Jones y Coviello, 2005; Weerawardena et al., 2007; Joardar y Wu, 2011; Covin y Miller, 2014). Thus it arises what has come to be known as International Entrepreneurial Orientation, being a different and dynamic way of explaining how businesses internationalize.
We focus the analysis on family businesses, since they are the most relevant kind of company in the different market economies, representing around 85 % of companies and 70 % of the GDP (Gross Domestic Product).
