The Spanish Social Security system takes years subject to a constant process of reform that has deeply affected all its institutions, in very different ways: if from the subjective perspective seems to be concluded in an extension of its scope, in an objective perspective, the trend is clearly contrary not protected both risk –that have been extended well socialized risks of individual character– as in the intensity of the protection provided that, on the contrary, has initiated a clear setback. The paper analyzes these changes in the context of the transformation of existing industrial society at the time of implementation of social security systems focusing on core reflection in the analysis of whether the social security system resulting from these reforms –and those to come– will be able to effectively fulfill the protective function of its own.
