On the centenary of the ILO. A close look back in time at its policy on labour migration

2019 is the year of celebration of the centenary of the ILO, the world’s foremost tripartite forum on social and labour issues. The issue of immigration has been addressed since its inception, highlighting the need to treat all working people without any difference in discriminatory treatment on grounds of nationality. The article first reviews the most recent statistical data on the importance of the migrant labour phenomenon. After a brief reminder of the normative contents dedicated specifically to the migrant population, it analyses in detail the most recent important contribution of the ILO to the regulation of the rights of migrant workers, also highlighting the impact that the standards, reports and documents drawn up have had on conventions and acts adopted by the United Nations.
