Controversial points of the widow's pension. Proposals and alternatives to the big question: Is it really necessary to reform?

The questioned viability of the social security system and social changes since the origin of the widow's pension and his eldest social function, has repeatedly putting their sights on the widow's pension, although his controversial reform has been postponed sine die.
There are many controversial points of an institution that for some doctrinal sector has become almost obsolete and whose comprehensive reform has been dodging and patching to date.
In this investigation it is revealed as the origin, function and evolution of the benefit for widows are the main factors that have affected the controversial regulation of the provision, with particular emphasis on two key issues: the issue regulation of pension widow of unmarried couples and questioned contributory pension regarding the sustainability of the system and poor protection of the neediest beneficiaries, in order to conclude with a series of reflections and final proposals on the points of widow's pension, as well as to answer the question posed in the title of this study: does a reform of the widow's pension is really necessary?
