Abstract

In this article the author describes the average pension of the contributory system of the Spanish Social Security attending to the different provinces and autonomous regions, considering the important Public Budget that is dedicated to the Social Security. Not only the regions are studied but also a temporary study is presented, and showing the relations between the results obtained and the purchasing power of the Spanish regions.

In this study, the importance of the evolution of the most influential figures in the Social Security, such as the life expectancy are the dependency ratio (Social Security contributors versus pensioners) make very interesting the analysis of the inequality and concentration distribution between the Social Security pensioners.

Taking this first analysis, the contribution to total inequality attributable to differences between autonomous communities is calculated, differencing the within and the between group inequality. In order to get it, the author uses generalized entropy index, and the Theil index, as a particular case.

On the other hand, the inequality is not only studied from the territorial perspective, but also considering the type of pension, noting the differences between them. Finally, in this study the temporal dimension is added, considering the evolution of inequality and concentration over different years, along with a study of the relationship between the behavior of the Social Security pensions and the purchasing power, measured by per capita GDP, in every region.

The results show the within and the between group inequality components, the inequality caused by the kind of pensions, Social Security schemes, and the relation with the per capita GDOP, in order to identify which measures would be most appropriate to achieve an equitable distribution in pensions.
